Taste Of Boston Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I went in TOB yesterday afternoon, and I honestly enjoyed it. The only issue I could think of is the fact that the restaurant is a bit small, yet it was comfortable. My server was well-spoken and worked hard to make sure I was enjoying my meal. I was definitely impressed! I had seafood bisque, which is truly a seafood lover's soup, it was delicious! I then had coconut shrimp with fries and cole slaw. The shrimp was very tasty and the fries were hot and crispy. The cole slaw was unlike any cole slaw I've had before, and I mean that in a good way. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant, and I highly recommend it to fellow seafood lovers!

If there is one thing my family loves, it's seafood. When we saw Taste of Boston pop up in Wesley Chapel, we had high hopes that it would bring us a taste of home. My parents and I split the fried calamari appetizer. It wasn't anything outrageous, just your every day squid, but it wasn't bad dipped in the marinara sauce. The grilled basa dinner is excellent though! I ordered mine with sweet potato fries as a side and took half of it home because the portions were so generous. My mom is a major lobster roll connoisseur and she approves of George's "famous" version. My dad had the Fisherman's Platter and shared some with my mom. It comes with fried fish, shrimp, scallops, clam strips, fries, onion rings, and coleslaw. For a small fee, you can substitute the clam strips for whole belly clams. My parents opted to do this and their only complaint was that they did not receive them. Taste of Boston offers weekday 'all you can eat' specials, including my beloved grilled basa on Wednesdays. You can also have all you can eat shrimp on Mondays at a great price. The Taste of Boston staff was friendly and helpful in answering any questions that we had about the menu. We have been here a few times and I would visit again next time I have a hankering for some good seafood.

Tried this place thinking it would be good casual seafood, and no, just no. It was just bland greasy food. Pretty dismal for a chain restaurant, still wondering how they've managed to become a chain in the first place. If you like greasy, rubbery seafood in a non-descript locale then this place is right up your alley.

So it's 820 pm on an all you can eat night and your hostess turns us away because you don't have enough business tonight and that's our fault? George? Either you are the most clueless uncaring business owner on the planet to have a policy as such or your employees are ruining your business and you are still clueless. I really like this place as its one of the only authentic inland seafood restaurants in Tampa. You've recently picked up a competitor across the street and at this point you have the value but nothing trumps value like better customer service and tonight your crew not only dropped the ball but flattened it with a steamroller. This is one you wanna fix fast sir. It's a shame that I had to erase a raving review from a year ago for this business in order to bring to light my frustrations tonight with a negative update. Again please fix this.z......

After eating there 4 times I had to downgrade them for the lobster bisque. I could swear that I bought the same bisque in the frozen food section at Bj's. However the fried fish was excellent, as was the fried shrimp. Sorry to say that their seafood marinara was bland, with tiny seafood parts, I've had better marinara from a jar! Not worth the price. The staff was friendly too.

This has to be the stupidest restaurant ever. The food is actually quite good when they have it and when they decide to serve it! The owner George really really needs to learn how to do business. My husband and I arrived at TOB at 8:20pm on Thursday for the all you can eat fish special. We were greeted not with a smile but with "swe're only serving takeout after 8:30". Since it wasn't yet 8:30, our response was "okay" and we waited to be seated. We were turned away. That's right folks. Turned away. This place has ALWAYS been odd - changing the rules on a whim. Nothing about TOB is consistent. Nothing. They open and close randomly, they run out of menu items regularly, the prices vary on a weekly basis. Like I said the food is alright but the aggravation caused by the unusual business practices is just not worth it. Wake up George!

Really great seafood! Just need to add steam oysters to the menu & maybe a happy hour. I wish dining in was more fun...they have a great set up, excellent food, beer, and even ice cream!... but something is still missing. For now I'll keep ordering it to go. Kudos on the friendly staff & always excellent seafood.

Too inconsistent. Fish is either amazing or awful. Every time that I have went there was a problem with the fountain drinks tasting like they were not mixed correctly.

Hubby and I stopped for a late lunch. Arrived just in time for the drinks special which I liked. Server was super friendly! And huge portion on my shrimp po boy. Lobster roll was good but the bisque for my taste was a little bland. I will definitely go back!

As I always say, you can always tell how good a restaurant is by tasting their soups. Since this place was called "Taste of Boston" I figured they would make a good homemade clam chowder soup, but I was wrong. It was the most bland clam chowder I have ever eaten. I was actually really bummed because there aren't many places around here to get good soup and I guess my expectations were let down by this one. After eating that really bland soup I can't even think of trying anything else on their menu. Tip for restaurant- This soup needed: more salt, pepper, use of fresh clams (not that canned crap), maybe use a ham hock for a light smoke flavor and a type of acid to brighten your soup up. Homemade soups in your restaurant should be cheap to make because you can use ingredients in your kitchen from "left over ingredients". It truly makes a difference having soups made with love VS eating a soup that taste worse than what you would get in a canned soup.

This place is the closest it gets to New England seafood. We recently had guests from Mass and took them there. The whole belly clams and scallops were delicious. Our server (Cheryl from Mass herself) was not only informative but extremely friendly. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for great seafood.

Pretty good... not amazing but good. Portions are huge so I feel the value is there.

I mean honestly, I am from the Northeast and so I may be a little picky when writing this review. I went because I was home visiting my family and when I heard about this place I had to try it out. I love clam cakes and chowder and I love lobster rolls! This version of all 3 was just ok; nothing to fancy. After eating the food though I can say that I miss Boston and I can't wait to go back to visit! I need some real New England Clam Chowder in my life and I need a real Clam Cake! This was just ok, I don't know if I would recommend it, but then again I don't live in Tampa anymore so who would I recommend it to? Try it-either you'll like it or you won't. If you are from the Northeast and know what real seafood should taste like I advise you to stay away or you will be disappointed. Oh, and when I was there they ran out of clam cakes and it was only about 3 on a Friday. Strange.

I love this place, they offer a wide variety of seafood and best of all they have clam cakes and chowder. The service is fine every time I go there. I am from the Northeast, and very picky about seafood; but this place was pretty good.

The fried clams were on point, and the lobster roll was good, but could have had more flavor. The haddock and steak tips were lousy. I sent the Lobster bisque back because it was curdled. The poor standards were disappointing because great potential exists with offering this type of food. I am from Boston and know this food well. There are many areas for improvement here and we were very excited initially since we hadn't had that food in the 10 years since we left Boston. The server we had was competent, conscientious and very friendly.

This restaurant has an identity crisis! Is it a quick service restaurant like Panera or PDQ, or a casual dining restaurant like Chili's? I can't figure it out! On the one hand, Taste of Boston serves beer, has appetizers on the menu, and most meals are priced in the range of $15. But, based on the decor (harsh fluorescent lighting, cheap seating, crappy tile floor) you would think you were in a cafeteria. The service wasn't bad, but is not on par with a sit-down restaurant. In fact, both Panera and PDQ (and many other restaurants in that category) are more attentive to their customers). I came here for some soup when I was feeling a little under the weather. I ordered the lobster roll and lobster bisque. I wish I had read the reviews on here before I ordered--they were spot on when it came to the lobster roll. It was bland. The lobster bisque was great, though. My husband ordered the grouper sandwich and said he liked it. All of the portions were smaller than I expected. We'll probably come back and order one of the featured all-you-can-eat items, which are around the same price as their regular items. Overall, good food, but too pricey for the style of restaurant.

I have to say after having eaten here several times over the last couple of years we decided to go back last night. To my surprise the place was rather quiet for a Friday. Our waiter took us to a table and we ordered, the food took a bit longer than normal but the place was getting a bit busier. By the time the food arrived my food was not as hot or as good as our other visits. It is too bad really because we really lied this place. The sever was ok nothing extra ordinary just ok. I hope the can get it together so it can last other wise, it may no. Be around much longer.

Food was very greasy and staff took forever to serve us. The clam chowder was Eh. Save yourself the trip.

I have had nothing but great food here. However, I have only eaten lunch. I have eaten here maybe twenty times or so? The clam basket is awesome. The Cajun Haddock, is awesome... I don't care much for the clam chowder though. I see some folks complaining about "Market Price", and out of stock on some items. This complaint has no merit . The market price of seafood changes on a daily basis. George ( the owner) works hard to deliver good product. He does a great job... The place is always packed at lunch... The only bad comment about this place is the parking. It is better to park in front of the main shopping center and walk (short distance) to the restaurant. The spaces directly in front of TOB are very skinny and people come hauling butt into the center 20 feet away. My car was hit here (when I was backing out) by some moron speeding into the center...

I love the lobster rolls here. Went today for lunch to satisfy my craving & I was not disappointed. When we got there, there was a group of elderly ladies getting their bills. I was so impressed the waitress made a point to let them know the tip was already included since they were s big party. So many times that is overlooked and unsuspecting patrons may pay double tips . She was very kind about it too!

We've eaten here about a half-dozen times since they opened. There was a waitress who was there since they opened the place, who had very curly, brown hair and glasses, that was excellent. I've noticed that she is no longer there, and the last few times that we have been there, the service was awful. We went there the other night, and were passed by three waitstaff as they went to stare at the sky and the approaching thunderstorm. As we moved up the foyer and stood at the sign informing us to "wait to be seated," all three servers were STILL looking out the front door, like they had never seen a cloudy sky before. Finally, one of them sat us at a table, where we were ignored further. We got up and left and nobody said anything. Like we were invisible. We tried really hard to put some money in someone's pocket, but they didn't seem interested. I've never seen it busy in there, so I can't see it lasting. As far as the food goes, it's been o.k. the times we've been there, and we've never gotten sick, so that's a plus. We won't be back. Rob P

Drove by this place and it looked interesting and we decided to try it out. Tried the lobster roll and also clam chowder. We were told that the lobster roll had fresh lobster...which it obviously was not. Clam chowder tasted like it had been out for 2 days. I do not recommend this place to anyone. If you want good lobster roll. Go to LOBSTER HAVEN

As I said in my tip, if you are worried about calories or avoiding delicious but fried seafood, this is perhaps not the place for you. I have no idea how "authentic" anything here is, but I've eaten at a number of Boston-style seafood places and this one is quite good. The shrimp po' boy is always a great choice for me - plump, sweet shrimp in a very light batter piled high on a sub roll with all the fixins. I held off trying clams for my first few visits, as they are so easily overcooked, but Taste of Boston gets them right - sweet, briny meat and not a hint of that terrible "rubber band" overcooking. I no longer live in New Tampa but the husband and I felt up for a drive one night and I realized that only fried seafood would do. He tried one of the baked casseroles of mixed seafood and thought it was excellent. The bite I tried was decadently rich and loaded with buttery seafood. I've dined here both evening and weekend lunches, both alone with a book and with others, and the service is has always been attentive but unobtrusive. While I do love a good seafood shack (of which there are great ones in Greater Tampa Bay), it nice to have a great, slightly more upscale option.

I have recently found this place and just love it. My boyfriend and I decided to get the calamari appetizer to start. It was the best it have had in a long time. It wasn't chewy like most places seem to do. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Next we decided to order the boston scrod and shrimp scampi over linguini. Both were cooked perfectly. The Boston scrod was moist with flavor and the sides were good as well. My boyfriend loved the scampi and the portions were huge! Definitely getting more then your money's worth! Needless to say this will be our regular place to eat :)

I'm from New Bedford (an hour south of Boston) so I had to try this place! Craving the fresh seafood from up north, we tried a variety of classics like the scallops, fish and clams. Fried clams are my favorite and I've tried them in various places throughout New England. They were good, not the best I've had but certainly the best I've had in Tampa (the only ones I've seen in Tampa actually). I would not recommend the clam chowder unless you have never had it in New England - then maybe it stands a chance. If you are from the northeast don't expect the same portions you get up there either, it seems this type of New England seafood is just harder to get here so they dole it out in small portions. If you need a Boston seafood fix, check it out! But go in with realistic expectations. In MA we would typically order one clam plate to share, here you each need your own. And, of course, this is understandable.

Let me preface this by saying I've never eaten "Boston-style" food anywhere else (I did see some of the negetive reviews on this place.). I'm only giving it three stars; because, although we enjoy it, there are really only a couple of things we've ordered that we like. Here's the low down: Basket of plantains: just your classic plate of delicious fried plantains. Really hits the spot. Random question: does anyone prefer the ends and crispy parts the best? Just like beef tips, I think there should be such a thing as plantain tips. I'd dig it. George's Famous Lobster Roll: *this is not one of the items we continue to order.* Big disappointment on my first lobster roll experience. Why, lobster, why? Not very much flavor or texture. Just bland and soft, lobster and mayo. No thanks. Seafood Bisque: *no longer on the menu.* Why must all good things come to an end? Really. They should have kept this one but maybe changed the name. This is the only bisque I've encountered to be so chunky and thick. Maybe call it Seafood Chowder. Maryland Crabcake Sandwich: drum roll, please! This is the largest crabcake I've ever ordered. Normally, you spend $10 for a crabcake the size of a quarter, not so here. Topped with slaw, some tarter sauce, lettuce, tomato, and onion. So good! It keeps us coming back. Not to mention it's only $10.99. We usually split it, it's that big. They also give you a ***free drink*** if you "like" them/"check-in" on Facebook and show it to the waiter. Parking is a pain, but the service has always been decent.

We have been wanting to try this place for some time. They had a fish n chips special today that they referred to as Basa fish for $7.99. We were told that it is an Asian pond fish that is imported from Asia. It was good but, we were disappointed that they use imported fish rather than local fish. Come on folks this is Florida! I ordered the clam strips basket $8.99. It was a huge basket of clams and fries which were very good. Didn't ask where they got the clams. The service was friendly but, very slow and they weren't that busy at 2:00 in the afternoon! Although the food was good we will probably not return since they don't use local fish.

This place sucks plain and simple. This was not my first issue that I have ever had here, but it will be my last. Customer service is nonexistent, and uncaring. Tonight's issue....if the sign at the carry out counter says that a bowl of clam chowder is $4.25, why did they charge me $4.75?? and, when I point this out to the server they tell me that, well, that sign is not accurate, and the server points out the fact that it is higher on the menu. Well, that is all just fine and dandy, I can understand that we all make mistakes. However, when I asked that they correct my check (this was a carry out order) to the lower price they flat out refused. A whole 50 cents... Unreal. Just imagine what would happen if you weren't happy with something that you ordered for dinner... I would think that it would be world war 3 in order to get the item removed from the check.... Bottom line, if you are looking for good seafood, from a decent place, I would look elsewhere... Maybe Aquafinz. On SR54, for example? Note to Cheryl: Apparently you are an employee, I have flagged your 5 star follow up to my post. In any event, the price difference is wrong, and your staff was wrong in not immediately offering a resolution when I INITIALLY brought up the issue. It should have been corrected instantly, with a smile, instead of having the server take a menu from the counter and point out to me that the chowder was a different price than the 2x4 foot SIGN ABOVE MY HEAD said that it was. That was insulting, My recollection is just fine, I have a very good memory! But, additionally, I do not appreciate essentially being called a liar in your post. The facts are the facts. You can't dispute that your employee did not immediately offer a resolution until after I mentioned that I would post this on Yelp! Perhaps having someone more responsible at the counter than a 17 year old girl that has no clue about customer satisfaction or customer service would be a good idea...?

If you've ever been to New England it's not just the way they say I parked my car at Harvard Yard. They also have a very distinctive way with preparing seafood. When you go into Taste of Boston and your order comes to your table, close your eyes before you take your first bite. Take that bite and you're right back in Plymouth, or Weymouth, Boston, etc, etc. It's that good!!

The wife and I tried this place out on the day of the Boston bombings, and I'm a fan. We got the larger portion of the fisherman's platter to split between us, and they brought us a huge plate of delicious fried seafood. We both had all we could eat, and still took some home. The wife has family in New England and knows good seafood; this easily rivals the best you can find in New Bedford. Combine that with the fact that the price averaged less than $15 per person, and you have a winning combination. The server was friendly and very patient with us, since we didn't know exactly what we wanted -- everything on the menu looked interesting. She was able to give us recommendations and tell us about the history of the place and about the owner. And she kept my water glass full, which is a bonus. Having read reviews further down the page, I was confused about the negative comments about the clam chowder. I found it to be rich and thick, appropriately starchy, flavorful, with a vaguely briny odor reminiscent of the sea (and that's a good thing). Delicious, but not necessarily something you'd want on a hot, humid Tampa day. This is on our list of favorite restaurants in the Tampa area and we will definately be back.

If you like bland tasting seafood, this is the restaurant for you. I lived in New England was looking forward to some authentic clam chowder. What a disappointment. No seasonings and a gluey consistency to the stock, and less than a scant helping of canned clams. The all you can eat basa (Thai catfish) featured breading that allowed the mild flavor of the fish to dominate. However the caveat that stated no plate sharing and not take home boxes for this part of the menu was not clearly positioned on the menu. The side of coleslaw was ordinary at best. Perhaps a more judicious ordering would result in a better meal, I doubt it.

Boston is my and my Husband's favorite city! So when I saw The Taste of Boston, we had to go! I really like the atmosphere at the Taste of Boston and they serve the best Clam Chowder! We also love their fried clam basket. The seafood is fresh and the service is good. The only downside is the parking. Don't stress! Just park in the Publix parking lot and walk over, it's worth it.

We went back after seeing the bad reviews to see what changed. We found the same fresh and delicious fish and seafood. See photos of yummy clam strips and halibut. 7:30 at night, the place was jumping with young families, couples- young and old, enjoying attentive service and good value for large portions. We had enough left for lunch the next day.

Ok, so perhaps I am biased because the night we went here we had just been turned away from another local lobster restaurant during regular posted hours, because "there are no customers tonight", but that is a whole other story. At any rate because of the earlier delay we got to TOB close to closing and we were still warmly welcomed, as we're several groups that came after us. The waiter was very polite and helpful. We were in the mood for Lobster, which was prepared just right. Prior to that we had steamers as an appetizer, ( a new England clam that is hard to find here in Tampa). They were also very tasty. The only reason that I do not give them 5 stars is that they serve beef tips rather than steak with the surf and turf and other beef/seafood combinations. Adding a nice Ribeye or Fillet would do a lot to round out the menu.

Don't people who own and work in restaurants know ANYTHING about the relation of a "pleasant" attitude and being successful???? My first contact was at their food truck. I ordered the lobster roll. It came on "PITA BREAD" !! !! !! !! W T F ???? Who serves a lobster roll on PITA / TACO bread ???? They said....oh we're sorry we ran out of the New England hot dog rolls. yeah.......????? This would obviously make any lobster taste poor. So it seems that they have NO INTEREST in introducing new customers to their food through their food truck and expecting the to re-visit. They convinced me to not return. It seems that making money is their first concern and NOT the happy experience of the patron.

I was in the area with clients and stopped in to get an iced tea. I didn't order any food so I can't comment on that... The Manager, Kristen, was working and was extremely helpful with providing information about the local area. My clients ended up getting some ice cream which they seemed to really enjoy. I will definitely stop in again and try the food sometime soon. You can take a look at their menu on their website: tasteofboston.net

Good food but patchy service. I have had both good service and service where I was basically ignored (standing at the counter) while my food sat on the counter behind the cashier for almost 10 minutes. She did however make time to take my money, but not to reach behind her to grab my bag until she took 2 phone calls, cashed out another customer and get another patrons food.

I was surprised to see all the bad reviews for this place. I visited them several months ago and it was pretty good. HOWEVER I recently went back... Boy did this place go downhill fast. The quality of the food and service was pretty bad. Our waitress had quite a chip on her shoulder. This place needs to get it's act together soon or it won't last.

The lobster roll is delicious! It had big chunks of fresh lobster and not too much mayo. The bread is perfect, toasted with butter and not soggy. I've had their fried clams and shrimp before which were both great. Their fries are good too! I will definitely come back and recommend this place!

Came here for lunch with my grandfather today and had a nice time. Restaurant has a lot of space inside for looking small from the outside. Food was pretty good, I got the lobster roll with a cup of lobster bisque and my grandpa got the calamari and fried plantain platter (appetizers). The calamari was pretty basic, no real flavor and standard marinara sauce. I'm more used to seasoned calamari and more variety in dipping sauces. The lobster bisque was okay and seemed a little too watery for a bisque but the flavor was nice. Also barely any pieces of lobster in mine as opposed to what Bonefish Grill will give you. I've never been a fan of plantains so I won't even try to judge them although my granpda seemed to enjoy them. The lobster roll was definitely delicious! Includes bread that's texture is like a cross between a hot dog bun and garlic toast, lettuce, and topped with a slaw of lobster that barely fits into the bread. Overall the lobster dishes were enjoyable but the calamari can be stepped up. The service was nice and the food came out pretty quick!
